Film Piracy: How to Protect Your Films in the Digital Age?

Most people don’t buy movies. They simply download it as soon as they are out. An even larger section of the people waits for popular movies to leak into torrent sites so that they could watch it without having to pay for it.

The digital revolution has been a huge opportunity for creativity, but as more content moves online, creators are increasingly harmed by online piracy and the unauthorized use of their works. Piracy poses a security risk to audiences, robs creators of compensation for the content we all love, and makes it harder to recoup the significant investments that go into the production of new movies.

Film industry has portrayed online piracy as a major threat. COA invites a group of knowledgeable industry veterans in the copyright field so that they can share practical information and ideas to film industry professionals whose films need to be valued and protected properly. In respect of achieving sustainable solutions for online piracy, the Forum will also review current practices on copyright infringement and remedies related to cinema under the copyright framework.

The Forum will serve as an opportunity to improve awareness within the film industry, as well as to support flexible, fair and workable approaches to reduce the illicit and illegal acts of online piracy that disrupt the digital ecosystem for the global film industry.
