Asian Casting Market’s Colorful and Various Events Announced

20th Busan International Film Festival’s Asian Film Market announces the various events of the Asian Casting Market.

Officially launching this year, Asian Casting Market will energize co-production endeavors by connecting established actors and the rising stars of Asia - the world’s biggest film market - with global film industry professionals. Building on the ‘Star Summit Asia’ event held in 2006, the foundations for promoting global casting was set up with last year’s test run of ‘Asian Casting Forum’, ‘Star Lineup’ and the opening of Asian talent management companies’ sales booths at 2014’s Asian Film Market. This year, Asian Casting Market is bolstered by the direct participation by actors from across the Asian region, as well as the Korea Entertainment Management Association and its many member companies.

- A Tribute to One Asian Actor at ‘Curtain Call’
Especially noteworthy is the inaugural ‘Curtain Call’, a special on-stage tribute for a selected veteran Asian star. The candidate for this event is a performer who has gained international recognition while promoting Asian films around the world and has experienced box office success in both domestic and overseas markets. This year’s Curtain Call will spotlight Korea’s SONG Kang-ho. Instantly recognized by both Korean and foreign audiences and the recipient of numerous awards, SONG has successfully advanced into overseas markets with films like Snowpiercer, The Attorney, and Thirst. In addition to being the first actor to receive the honour of the special tribute stage of ‘Curtain Call’, actor SONG Kang-ho will also co-host the Opening Ceremony of the 20th Busan International Film Festival.

- Rising Stars from Korea, China, and Japan Introduced at ‘Casting Board’
Another important event to note is ‘Casting Board’ a showcase to introducing young Asian actors who are promising candidates for international projects. This year, actors from Korea, China, and Japan who have already demonstrated great performances in their burgeoning careers and have a substantial fan base in their respective domestic markets, will be introduced by the Casting Board event.
Representing Korea is KIM Woo-bin who has many fans in the Asian region and is recognized for his dedication to his craft. Joining him is young Korean actress KIM Go-eun who has provided several strong performances and is fluent in Mandarin.
From the Chinese-speaking region is the widely admired Mark CHAO who has not only shown great performances in diverse roles, but is also fluent in English. Also from the Chinese-speaking region comes Sandrine PINNA, an actress of Taiwanese-French descent, who is loved by the Taiwanese and Chinese public for her acting as well as her charming looks.
Japan is represented by SATOH Takeru who gathered attention from the youth market for his performance inRurouni Kenshin. Also representing Japan is NAGASAWA Masami who is receiving much attention internationally for her work with KORE-EDA Hirokazu even as she builds on her successful TV career.
